The city Gelsenkirchen in Germany is famous for coal, Schalke 04 and some of the most successful Turkish players in the history of the game. Mesut Özil, Hamit Altintop, Kaan Ayhan and Gündoğan all herald from the small mining city. The Gelsenkirchen boys between them have won just about everything there is to win in Germany, Spain, Turkey and Özil lifted the World Cup last summer. Footballers of Turkish origin in Germany can play for their country of birth and Turkey at international level. Gündoğan and Özil decided to play for Germany while the Altıntop twins and Ayhan opted for Crescent-Stars.
