Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan admitted he was delighted with reaching the Champions League Last 16 for the second time in a row following the goalless draw against Juventus.
Turan shared an image with teammate Raul Garcia following the game with the caption, “Strange Arda waiting for doping control for the man, Raul.”
Turan played the full 90 minutes against Juventus and completed the highest number of passes – 48 – for his side at an 88 percent accuracy.
The Turkish international worked hard closing down the opposition and made the highest number of interceptions in the team (3).
Atleti boss Diego Simeone was also pleased with his sides performance.
“Going through is very important and for the second year in a row we will be seeded so I’m very happy,” Simeone said.
“It was a very intense first half with chances at both ends. In the second half we kept things tight and looked out for a counterattack situation which could have seen us win the game.
“I’m really happy with the way the lads played. We were up against really strong opponents and they could have beaten us in the reverse match.
“Our first aim was to win the Spanish Super Cup, which we did, and then to get to the last 16, which we’ve also done. At the same time we wanted to be in a good position in the league, which we are too.”
