Arda Turan joins Muntadhar al-Zaidi in shoe throwing hall of fame [divider]

Atletico Madrid lost a fiery encounter against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey 3-2 but the main talking point apart from the five goals was Arda Turan’s shoe throwing incident.

Turan responded to his boot coming off in a challenge by throwing it at the assistant referee. The boot narrowly missed the official’s head and resulted in the Turkish international being shown a yellow card.

The 27-year-old joins Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi in shoe throwing hall of fame. Mr Zaidi famously threw his shoe at former US president George Bush but also narrowly missed his intended target.

Atleti ended up crashing out of the Copa del Rey 4-2 on aggregate.
