Arda Turan set to face former side Atletico Madrid for first time since joining Barcelona

Man United team news Arda Turan

Arda Turan is set to face his former team Atletico Madrid for the first time since joining Barcelona when the two sides meet at the Camp Nou on Saturday 30 January.

Turan joined Barcelona from the Rojiblancos on a five-year deal worth £29 million over the summer but had to wait six-months to make his debut due to the FIFA transfer ban imposed on the club.

The Turkish international winger first made a name for himself at Atleti under the stewardship of Diego Simeone.

The bearded winger reached his true potential under Simeone. Turan was always a gifted dribbler of the ball with wonderful technique but he was criticised as being lazy at Galatasaray.

All that was about to change as the Argentinian coach whipped him into shape, transforming him into an assiduous, team player that became renowned for his doggedness in midfield.

The Turan we have come to know was born at Galatasaray but made by Simeone. The former Rojiblanco went onto win every domestic title up for grabs and all European trophies except for the Champions League although he did play a key role in the side that made the 2014 final.

Turan missed the mid-week cup game against Athetlic Bilbao with the flu but is expected to recover and be available for the Atleti clash.
