Turkey beat Qatar 2-1 at the Lekhwiya Stadium last week thanks to a goal and assist from Arda Turan.

The bearded winger was impressed with the stadium and organisation of the international friendly to such an extent that he revealed he now believes Qatar will host a great World Cup.

Turan underlined that the atmosphere was fantastic and also that he was delighted with his role in the victory.

“I am happy that the 2022 World Cup is being staged in Qatar,” Turan told Bein Sports at Doha’s Lekhwiya Stadium.

“We were a bit relaxed in the beginning. However, we regained our form in the second half and went on to win, which was important. The atmosphere inside the stadium was great and I must thank the people of Qatar for their hospitality.

“I am sure that the atmosphere in the 2022 World Cup will be even better.”

The Turkish international has of course been banned from playing club football for his club Barcelona due to the club serving a transfer ban until the turn of the year but has two goals and four assists for his country this season.

Turan joined Barcelona on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid over the summer but has yet to play a single game for his new club.

The 28-year-old is expected to start for Turkey against Greece next.
