Are Fenerbahce set to get their hands back on the Turkish league title?
Fenerbahce are one of Turkey’s most successful clubs and it looks as though they may be about to get their hands back on the Super Lig title. Defending champions Galatasaray are languishing in fifth place – 18 points behind Vitor Pereira’s men at the top of the table. Right now, it’s a two-horse race between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, who are currently just two points adrift of the league leaders.
If truth be told, Fenerbahce have the best squad and deserve to win the title after their excellent, consistent performances throughout the season. The likes of Robin van Persie, Luis Nani and Fernandao have all stepped up to the plate when required and Fenerbahce have reaped rewards from their individual talents.
At the time of writing, Fenerbahce look well placed to beat Kayserispor in their next game. For this match, Coral’s football betting market is everything the avid fan needs and you can back Pereira’s men at 2/5 to pick up all three points – an outcome that would at least ensure they maintain their two-point advantage at the top of the Super Lig table. Pereira’s men are looking confident right now but that confidence may be tested throughout the remainder of the campaign, unless of course Besiktas slip up in the coming weeks.
The Turkish league has improved considerably in recent years and it has matured into one of the most competitive divisions in Europe. In years gone by, the Super Lig has been a one-sided affair but it’s good to see two of Turkey’s most prestigious clubs locking horns in the fight for the top spot. Hopefully next season, we can see a three-way fight between Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray for the title.
In the meantime, it’s all about the race for this year’s championship. Fenerbahce are probably the ‘in-form’ side, winning each of their last three league games – including a crucial 2-0 victory over Besiktas. That victory could be the defining moment of the season, especially as both clubs will be confident of picking up close-to-maximum points in their remaining fixtures. Coral still make Fenerbahce slight favourites
Who will emerge victorious come judgement day? Will it be the mighty Fenerbahce or the rising Besiktas? Right now, Fenerbahce have the edge and their seasoned professionals may just have the experience and talent to get Vitor Pereira’s men over the line. If nothing else, one thing’s for sure: it’s sure to be an enthralling end to the season for neutrals!
