Mesut Ozil is expected to recover in time for Euro 2016 according to Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger.

The experienced French manager revealed the extent of Ozil’s injury shortly before Arsenal took on Manchester City in the Premier League.

“He has a hip problem from yesterdays training, so he didn’t travel” Wenger told SkySports.

When asked whether the injury was serious enough to harm Ozil’s chances of playing in Euro 2016 Wenger said, “I don’t think so, its a question of days.”

Arsenal recorded a 2-2 draw with Manchester City in Ozil’s absence, securing a top-three finish in the Premier League. The former Real Madrid playmaker has recorded 18 assists and with a game to go still has a chance of equalling the Premier League record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.

It is unknown whether Ozil will be fit in time for the Gunners’ clash with Aston Villa next weekend.

Arsenal can overtake their rivals Tottenham in second place if Spur’s lose to Swansea and Arsenal record a victory on the last day of the season.
