Liverpool beat Arsenal at the Emirates for just the second time in their last 21 attempts following their opening Premier League game of the season victory last week.

The Reds beat the Gunners 4-3 and Germany international of Turkish origin Emre Can did feature – although he did not start.

Can revealed that he views Arsenal as a direct competitor this season and underlined that he was very pleased with beating the North London based outfit.

“It was important to make a good start and beat a direct competitor,” Can was quoted as saying by ESPN.

The 22-year-old came on as a substitute against the Gunners and revealed that he was not 100 percent fit going into the clash.

“I am not 100 percent. I need to achieve that, but I’m giving it my all in training,” he said.

The Germany international of Turkish origin returned late to pre-season training due to his Euro 2016 duties. However, Germany team-mate Mesut Ozil was not even included in the Gunners match-day squad.

Can has been working on his match fitness and could get his first start of the season next weekend against Burnley at Turd Moor.
