Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger defends Özil following criticism from Paul Scholes
Scholes commented on the Özil in an article in the newspaper The Independent. The Gunners Boss responded to Scholes’ comments at a pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash against Manchester United.
“I think a player like Paul Scholes would have loved to play with Mesut Özil,” Wenger stated.
“Having said that, I believe about Ozil it’s a wrong statement [from Scholes]. He works very hard and he’s a great player.
“He has something to prove and he knows that. We are all in a job where in every single game we have to prove a point.”
Arsenal are currently third in the league with 54 points in 28 games. The North London based side have recorded four victories in a row and are four points behind second place Manchester City.
The 26-year-old has a total of four goals and seven assists in 19 appearances for Arsenal this season.
