Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reveals why Mesut Ozil was rested ahead of Barcelona clash

Arsenal team news

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed why Mesut Ozil missed his sides clash with Hull City in the FA Cup.

The Gunners were unable to unlock Hull’s defence yesterday afternoon in Ozil’s absence.

Arsenals ended up being held to a goalless draw at the Emirates but Wenger revealed his reason to rest Ozil.

“I rested Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil completely,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Metro.

“Ozil was a bit sick during the week and I decided to leave him completely out.

“It was a cold, nothing major.”

The Germany international is expected to return to Arsenal’s starting line-up for the Gunners encounter with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League next week.

Ozil has been in great form for Arsenal this season and provided the assist for the Gunners last-gasp goal that saw them cut the gap between themselves and league leaders Leicester City to two points.

The World Cup winner has six goals in all competitions and 17 assists in the Premier League – the highest in the league.
