Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Van Persie was 'one of the best I’ve ever managed'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Robin Van Persie was one of the best players he has ever managed.

Van Persie spent eight seasons under the stewardship of Wenger racking up a total of 131 goals for the Gunners and became a fan favourite before his controversial move to Manchester United in 2012.

I’m quite surprised that Robin van Persie has gone to Turkey this summer. He’s a loss for English football because he’s an exceptional player, one of the best I’ve ever managed,” Wenger was quoted as saying in the Mirror.

In total Van Persie score 190 goals in 383 appearances combined for Arsenal and United over more than a decade of Premier League football.

The 31-year-old striker leaves the Premier League as the second highest non-English scorer and the number 10 all time scorer in the league.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahçe from United on Tuesday signing a three-year deal in-front of 15,000 fans at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium.

The Yellow Canaries will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League play-off round at the end of the month.
