Arsenal boss defends decision to rest Mesut Ozil following Hull City draw

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger decided to rest Mesut Ozil going into the FA Cup clash against Hull City today.

The Gunners ended up being held to a goalless draw at the Emirates but Wenger defended his decision to rest Ozil.

Arsenal will of course take on Barcelona in three days and Wenger seems to have wanted his key players to have some rest before the Champions League clash.

Ozil has been in great form for Arsenal this season and provided the assist for the Gunners last-gasp goal that saw them cut the gap between themselves and league leaders Leicester City to two points.

The World Cup winner has six goals in all competitions and 17 assists in the Premier League – the highest in the league.

Sanchez, Giroud did not start and Aaron Ramsey was also rested against the Tigers. The Gunners were unable to score but did dominate possession and have 11 shots on target.
