Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil praised his team for keeping Manchester United at bay following the 1-1 draw against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The Gunners remained in third place and on course for automatic Champions League entry following the draw.

Özil shared a picture from the game alongside the caption: “1:1 @ OldTrafford. We kept ManUtd at distance… #COYG #MUFCvAFC #Arsenal #bpl.”

Mesut Ozil sparks rumours of Arsenal move for Julian Draxler

Manchester United defender Phil Jones’ facial expressions often trend on social media and Özil could have unintentionally sparked a new Twitter frenzy with his latest picture.

Özil made his 29th appearance for Arsenal this season against the Red Devils.

The 26-year-old’s passing accuracy was uncharacteristically poor (79%) but he did complete the highest number of successful dribbled in the game (4).

Arsenal take on Sunderland next on Wednesday 20 May at the Emirates.

The Gunners could still overtake second placed Manchester City by the end of the season as they have a game in hand.

Arsenal will also face Aston Villa in the FA Cup final on May 30 at Wembley.
