Arsenal team news

Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Özil is expected be rested for Arsenal’s clash with Exeter in the FA Cup this weekend.

The Chronicle newspaper state the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is is wary of his key player suffering from burning out and is likely to give the 27-year-old a short break before the Premier League continues next week.

“I gave Mesut a one-week holiday in the international break,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Chronicle.

“At the moment he doesn’t practice a lot, we rest him a lot between the games. He is a guy who, once the basic fitness is there, wants to play.”

Özil has been in impressive form this season and has provided 16 assists in 17 Premier League games.

The Germany international has more assists than any other player in England and the top five leagues in Europe including France, Italy, Spain and Germany.

Özil has also been awarded two Player of the Month awards for October, November and is currently favourite to win the December addition as well.
