Arsenal playmaker provided assist for Man Utd star in Germany 2-0 win

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil played a staring role in Germany’s 2-0 victory over Ukraine in their opening game of Euro 2016.

The Arsenal playmaker was included in Joachim Löw’s starting line-up in his favoured number ten role behind the striker Mario Gotze.

Ozil was one of the stars of the show after he provided an assist for Manchester United’s Bastian Swinesteiger with the second goal to wrap up all three points.

The victory was the first by a two-goal margin in the tournament so far.

Ozil has enjoyed an impressive season winning the Arsenal player of the season award and proving the highest number of assists in the league (19).

The Arsenal star is one of two Germany intentional players of Turkish origin in the side – the other being Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Germany go into the tournament as one of the bookmakers favourites and will take on Poland in their next game.
