Arsenal star Mesut Ozil delighted with Germany international striker return

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has revealed that he was delighted that Besiktas striker Mario Gomez returned to the Germany national team fold.

Ozil started in the international friendly games against England and Italy last week.

Gomez scored in the 3-2 defeat against England in Berlin but did not feature in the 4-1 victory over Italy. The goal was his first for the Germany national team since 2012.

Ozil told the Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik: “We were all really pleased with Mario [Gomez] returning to the national team.”

The powerful striker has been in great form for Besiktas season scoring the most goals in the league – 21.

The Black Eagles are currently first in the Turkish league with Gomez playing a starring role in the side.

Gomez has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United as well las rivals Manchester City and is expected to join Germany for the European Championships this summer.

Besiktas take on Kasimpasa next in the mini Istanbul derby on Monday 4 April and will remain four points clear of second placed Fenerbahce.
