Arsenal star Mesut Ozil didn’t receive a single vote for writers Footballer of the Year

Liverpool v Arsenal Mesut Ozil v N'Golo Kante

Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil enjoyed an impressive season for the Gunners this season.

The 27-year-old has recorded 18 assists and with two games to go still has a chance of equalling the Premier League record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.

However, Ozil’s achievements have gone unnoticed for the FWA Footballer of the Year award.

Ozil did not receive a single vote for the awards which went to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

The 27-year-old was also named as one of six PFA Player of the Year award candidates before losing to Riyad Mahrez.

Ozil is Arsenal’s most expensive signing however, following a disappointing end to the season the 27-year-old is seeking assurances that the squad will be strengthened in the summer.

Arsenal take on Manchester City next weekend in the Premier League as they look to secure a third place finish.
