Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has heaped praise on Real Madrid’s manager Zinedine Zidane.

The 27-year-old played for the Madrid giants while Zidane was a coach at the club. Ozil went onto stated that the former France international was one of the cleverest players in the world.

“Zidane was an amazing player. He did not just play football, but lived for the game,” Ozil told Spox.

“I got to know him after his active career as someone who is always willing to lend a hand.

“I have watched a lot of games involving Zidane. He was one of the most clever players in the world.

“He was able to read the game and direct play without any unnecessary tricks and showboating. That’s what makes him so special.”

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for a club record £42 million back in 2013.

The 27-year-old played a staring role in Germany’s win over Italy and got himself on the scoresheet after converting from the penalty spot.

Ozil has 19 assists and seven goals in 38 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season.

Arsenal take on Watford FC in the Premier League this weekend as they look to continue their title hopes.
