Arsenal star Mesut Ozil held talks with Fenerbahce in his latest trip to Istanbul according to Hurriyet sports journalist Ahmet Ercanlar.

Ozil reportedly spent 17 hours in Istanbul over the course of his latest trip to the city where he entered discussions with the Yellow Canaries regarding his future.

Ercanlar – who has close ties to Fenerbahce – claimed that Ozil held talks with Fenerbahce over a potential future move.

“I believe it is very likely that Ozil will wear a Fenerbahce jersey over the next few seasons,” Ercanlar was quoted as saying.

Fenerbahce are not planning to bring in Ozil next season but at some stage over the next few seasons once he decided to leave Arsenal.

Ozil was born in Germany but he is an ethnic Turk and a popular figure in Turkey despite not representing the Crescent-Stars at international level.

The Arsenal playmaker is a self-confessed fan of Fenerbahce and grew up supporting the club. Ozil has made no secret of his desire to play for the Istanbul giants in the future.

Ozil told the Sabah last July: “In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt. It would be an honour. Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”

Ercanlar stated that the arrival of Ozil could coincide with Turkish billionaire Ali Koc taking over Fenerbahce – which is expected to go ahead in 2018.
