Arsenal star Mesut Ozil: 'No matter what happened, the club and the fans are always with me'

Mesut Özil has stated that the reception he received when he returned from his injury was the best moment of this season.

The 26-year-old missed three months of the season due to a knee injury he sustained during a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea back in October.

“My best moment [of the season] was the first game back after my injury against Stoke City,” Özil told Kicker.

“The fans cheered a lot when I was brought on. That was a brilliant feeling and helped me a lot.

“From then on I understood: no matter what happened, the club and the fans are always with me.

Özil did however, return from his injury stronger than ever. The World Cup winner has won two Vitality Arsenal Player of the Month and a PFA Fans Player of the Month award since the turn of the year.

The 26-year-old also lead his side to FA Cup success for the second consecutive season.

The Arsenal playmaker was also recently found to be the second best performing attacking midfielder in Europe since the turn of the year by the CIES Football Observatory’s latest performance rankings.

Özil provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season.
