Arsenal star Mesut Ozil slams clubs paying excessive transfer fees

Mesut Özil has backed Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who has warned about the explosion of transfer fees earlier this month.

The 26-year-old has urged football clubs to be carful and not to not to lose its grip on reality.

“No individual around the world is worth €50 million,” Özil told the German newspaper Express.

Özil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid back in 2013 for a club record £42.5 million. The 26-year-old still has another three-years left on his contract and is reported to be happy at the club.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was heavily criticised offer the summer for not splashing out during the transfer window. The Gunners were the only team in the Premier League not to sign an out-field player.

Özil was rested for the cup game against Tottenham but is expected to return to the starting line-up against Leicester City on Saturday 26 September at the King Power stadium.
