Souness did however, underlined that a reason Özil has been criticised in the past is that he does not work hard enough to win the ball back when he loses it. Instead of complaining the football pundit believes that fans should just accept his playing style and focus on what he does bring the team.
“He is a silky player, we have got used to the silkiness I think what people were frustrated by is that if he has the ball and loses the ball he does not show aggression to get it back but I think you have to accept that from him because he gives you so much when he has the ball in the opposition final third,” Souness said speaking on Sky Sports before the 1-1 draw against Tottenham.
