Arsenal’s hopes of signing Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the summer transfer window has received a boost after the ‘new Ozil’ has stalled on signing a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen.
According to the Metro newspaper, Çalhanoğlu has rejected a contract extension and pay-rise offered by his club. However, Çalhanoğlu’s current contract with Leverkusen ends in July 2019.
The young midfielder has also been closely linked with Arsenal according to the Daily Star. Arsenal are understood to be preparing an offer of cash plus Lukas Podolksi at the end of the season.
Çalhanoğlu has scored ten times and provided eight assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.
The Turkish international was named best young player of the 2013/14 season by leading German football magazine 11 Freunde.
