Arsenal target Özyakup wants to win title with Besiktas before leaving

Besiktas’ in-form midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup has stated that he wants to achieve success his his current club before considering a move abroad.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been in impressive form this season having provided six assists and scored five goals from a deep-lying midfield role.

“Arda Turan has opened up the doors to Europe for Turkish footballers I want to follow in his footsteps,” Özyakup said in a recent interview with Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

“However, first I want to win the Turkish Super Lig title with Besiktas.” 

Özyakup has attracted interest from Premier League clubs including former side Arsenal according to Talksport.

 

The 23-year-old midfielder played a major role in Arsenal’s Under-18s side that won the Premier Academy League title in 2009 and made a few appearances in cup competitions for the Gunners before joining Beşiktaş in 2012 for a fee of €500,000.

Özyakup now has five goals and six assists in all competitions for the Black Eagles this season.

Beşiktaş are currently first in the Turkish Super League and have scored the highest number of goals this season – 41.
