Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has drawn comparisons between Tiago Ilori and Emre Can.
Speaking to Aston Villa TV (AVTV) Sherwood stated that Ilori is versatile player much like the newly capped Germany international.
Ilori is currently on a season long loan at Aston Villa from Liverpool.
“I see him like an Emre Can,” Sherwood told AVTV
“A lot of people say that if you don’t nail down one position, it’s detrimental to your career. I don’t believe that. I believe it gives you the chance to play more minutes.”
“I think he could be an exceptional player. He’s not there yet. But he’s in the right place.”
Can started his second consecutive game for the Germany national team – against Scotland at right-back earlier this week. The former Bayer Leverkusen man has however spent this season in his favoured midfield position for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old joined the Reds on a £9.75 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen last summer
Can has featured in all four Liverpool Premier League games this season and is expected to play against Manchester United next at Old Trafford this weekend.
