Atletico Madrid rival Arsenal with €20m bid for free-kick maestro after agent confirms interest

Atletico Madrid have made offers for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu his agent Bektas Demirtas confirmed.

Speaking to SPORT BILD Demirtas was quoted as saying: “There are always offers for Hakan, there are always enquiries.”

Demirtas did however, state that he thinks it is unlikely that the Turkish international leaves Bayer this summer although he did not completely rule it out.

“I can not imagine that he still goes into the transfer window to me,” he added.

Atleti are keen on signing long-term target Calhanoglu and prepared to pay €20 million for the highly rated attacking midfielder according to Turkish sports newspaper AMK.

The 22-year-old did recently reveal in an interview with the BILD that he could not rule out leaving Bayer.

When asked if he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Calhanoglu responded by saying: “You never know in football what will happen.” 

Premier League giants Arsenal are also in the race for Calhanoglu according to TalkSport.

Per the source, the Bundesliga outfit are considering cashing in on their star man if their valuation is met.

Calhanoglu scored 11 direct set-piece goals in the Bundesliga alone establshing himself as one of the most feared free kick specialists in European football.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola described him – during his time in charge of Bayern Munich – as being one of the best free-kick takers in the Bundesliga stating, “Çalhanoğlu is one of the best free-kick takers in the Bundesliga.”
