Barcelona’s out-of-favour defender Thomas Vermaelen has been linked with a summer move to Besiktas according to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak.
The report states that the Turkish Super Lig leaders are already making plans for next season and are looking to strengthen in defence.
Vermaelen has managed just ten appearances for Barcelona following an injury plagued season. The Belgium international joined the La Liga giants from Arsenal for €19 million back in 2014. Vermaelen has three years remaining on his current deal with Barcelona.
The spotlight has been on Besiktas’ defence following a string of high-profile errors including one on Saturday against Akhisar Belediyespor.
Besiktas at the top of the Premier League and are currently six points ahead of their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce. The Yellow Canaries do however have the chance to slash the point gap down to three points is they can record a win away to Trabzonspor.
