Basaksehir change name to Medipol Basaksehir

Başakşehir have changed their name to Medipol Başakşehir after signing a sponsorship deal with the Medipol health group.

The Istanbul minnows have changed their name for the second time this season. Başakşehir were formerly called İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor and were owned by the Municipality of Istanbul.

In June 2014, the club name changed to İstanbul Başakşehir Futbol Kulübü after becoming privately owned.

Başakşehir have a small fan base and only average 2,472 spectators per-game to the Fatih Terim stadium.

Despite having one of the smallest fan bases in the league club legend Abdullah Avcı has almost secured a fourth place finish for the newly promoted side.

Avcı’s side have kept 16 clean sheets this season and have the best defensive record in the league.

Başakşehir will ensure a fourth place Europa League finish with a draw against Fenerbahçe today.

Fenerbahçe must however, beat Başakşehir to keep their title hopes alive going into the final game of the season.
