Bayer Leverkusen will need two perfect days if they want to eliminate Atletico Madrid from the Champions League Last 16.

“Tomorrow we have the first 90 minutes of 180. We have to show everybody that we can cause Atlético trouble, but we will need two perfect days to go through,” Schmidt was quoted as saying on the official UEFA website.

Schmidt also underlined that his side would have to make the most of their home advantage in the first leg.

“As the home team we have a lot of attacking power and we can create chances, but it won’t be easy against a defensively strong side like Atlético. If we get a good result tomorrow, everything is possible in the second match,” he added.

Bayer secured a place in the Last 16 after finishing Group C in second place, one point behind Monaco who will take on Arsenal.

Atletico Madrid topped Group A to qualify for the second round of the competition.

The La Liga champions went all the way to the Champions League final last season.

Simeone has won seven of his eight two-legged ties as Atletico’s boss in European competition.

The Champions League Last 16 first-leg between the Rojiblancos and Bayer will be played in BayArena on Wednesday.
