Beşiktaş take on Liverpool in the Europa League Round of 32 but the Black Eagles are already quite familiar with English opposition having played Premier League sides five times already this season.

Eagles club director of football Semih Usta believes this could work in the Turkish giants favour.

“Liverpool are tough opponents, of course. It could have been a much better draw for us, but this is not the first time this season we’ve been handed a tough draw,” Usta told the official Liverpool website.

Beşiktaş played Chelsea in a pre-season friendly and narrowly lost out 1-0 on aggregate against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League play-offs.

The Eagles were later drawn against Tottenham in the Europa League Group C. Beşiktaş beat Tottenham 1-0 in Istanbul and drew 1-1 at White Hart Lane.

“We were paired with Arsenal for our Champions League qualifier and then Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League group stage,” Usta said.

Usta also revelaed that he believes Beşiktaş could make it all the way to the final and lift the cup if they get past Liverpool.

“So the reaction is this – if we can get past Liverpool, then we believe we have what it takes to win the cup,” he added.

Beşiktaş take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Round of 32 on Thursday 19 February.
