Besiktas confirm talks with Barcelona over stadium inauguration

Beşiktaş have released a statement denying reaching an agreement with Barcelona to play the La Liga champions for the Vodafone Arena inauguration game.

The Istanbul giants did however, confirm being in talks with Barcelona over playing their first game in their new stadium against the reigning Champions League title holders.

The Black Eagles released the following statement: “An agreement has yet to be reached however, talks are ongoing and the date of the stadium inauguration will be a factor.”

Beşiktaş are currently constructing the 42,1903 seater Vodafone Arena stadium which is expected to be ready in early 2016.

Milliyet reported that an agreement had been struck between Besiktas and Barcelona and a contract was expected to be signed over the next few weeks.

Beşiktaş have been using Beko who have a long term partnership deal with the club and also sponsor Barcelona as a third party to hold the talks.

The stadium will replace the old İnönü and is being constructed on the same land as the previous venue opposite the Dolmabahçe palace in the Beşiktaş district of the city.
