Besiktas drop into Europa League Pot 3 following Celtic exit from Champions League

Beşiktaş have dropped into pot 3 in the Europa League group stages following Celtic and Basel’s exit from the Champions League play-off stages.

Celtic were eliminated from the competition after losing 2-0 against Malmo yesterday while Basel were also knocked out.

Celtic have 39,080 UEFA co-efficient points, Basel have 84,875 while Beşiktaş have 36,520 points.

Beşiktaş reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season knocking out Tottenham and Liverpool along the way.

The Black Eagles could be in for a rematch with Liverpool in the group stages as the Reds have been draw in pot 2.

The Istanbul giants finished last season in third-place but are no longer managed by Slaven Bilic. The Croatian manager replaced Sam Allardyce at West Ham United over the summer.

Beşiktaş are coached by former Turkish national team manager Şenol Güneş who guided Turkey to 3rd place in the 2002 World Cup .

The Eagles strengthened their team with the additions of Mario Gomez, Quaresma and Andres Beck over the summer.
