Besiktas set to table bid for Liverpool defender

Besiktas are preparing an offer for Liverpool’s out-of-favour centre back Martin Skrtel.

The Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik claim that the Black Eagles are already making preparations for next season and have their sights set on the Slovakian international.

Skrtel has lost his place in Liverpool’s starting line-up following the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

The 31-year-old has two years remaining on his current contract with the Red’s. Liverpool signed Skrtel from Zenit St. Petersburg back in 2008 and the experienced defender has made over 300 appearances for the Premier League giants.

The spotlight has been on Besiktas’ defence following a string of high-profile errors including one on Saturday against Akhisar Belediyespor.

Besiktas at the top of the Premier League and are currently six points ahead of their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce. The Yellow Canaries do however have the chance to slash the point gap down to three points is they can record a win away to Trabzonspor.
