Vlaar is available on a free transfer as Aston Villa failed to renew their contract with the Netherlands international.

The 30-year-old defender recently stated that he believes he can play at a higher level than Aston Villa.

“I want to maximise my career and I think I can go a step higher,” Vlaar told the Daily Star.

Manchester United are also considering a move for the Aston Villa centre back according to the Metro. Vlaar is no stranger to United boss having worked with former Netherlands national team manager Louis van Gaal in the 2014 World Cup last summer.

Vlaar joined Villa for €5 million from Feyenoord and provided two assists in 23 appearances for the Premier League outfit in all competitions this season.

The Black Eagles finished the Turkish Super Lig season in third place and will play in the Europa League group stages next season.
