“I am truly proud of players. They did not play that well, but they managed to turn the game into our smartest match of the season by sticking to our game plan until the end,” Bilic told the official Beşiktaş website.
Bilic was praised for his tactical nuance against Trabzonspor, the Croatian manager switched formation on 57 minutes bringing on Demba Ba for right-back Daniel Opare and changing to a 4-4-2 setup from a 4-2-3-1.
The impact was immediately felt, Ba opened the scoring a minute after coming on and secondary striker Mustafa Pektemek wrapped up the three points in the last minute of additional time.
The loss was Trabzonspor’s first at home since the turn of the year and their second against Beşiktaş in the league this season.
Beşiktaş moved into first place in the Süper Lig standings following the win, one point ahead of second placed Fenerbahçe.
Galatasaray will however, join Beşiktaş at the top of the league with a win against Akhisar today.
