Beşiktaş manager Slaven Bilic has underlined that his side cannot afford to squander chances against Liverpool like they did at Anfield in the return-leg.

The Black Eagles lost the first game 1-0 but have a chance to turn around the score at the Atatürk Olympic stadium.

“We created a few good chances against Liverpool but squandered them, we have to be braver and more intelligent in the second leg as we are in need of a goal,” Bilic told Turkish-football.com reporters at his pre-match press conference.

Bilic also underlined that he was impressed with his sides defensive efforts in the first leg and underlined that Beşiktaş must defend just as well as a team in the return game.

“We defended well as a team, perhaps it was our best defensive performance but we need to do even better in the return game,” he added.

The Croatian manager has a number of defensive concerns going into the second leg.

Centre back Ersan Gülüm and left-back Ramon Motta are both suspended.

Bilic is expected to play January signing Daniel Opare as a makeshift left-back and play either Necip Uysal or Atınç Nukan alongside Pedro Franco in defence.
