Bundesliga star's transfer on hold as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger pursues Valencia defender

Arsenal’s pursuit of Omer Toprak has been put on hold as the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger refuses to give up on signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

Wenger has admitted that the transfer window has been frustrating for the north London based side but says negotiations with Valencia for Mustafi are still ongoing.

“Mustafi? We hope it will be done,” Wenger told SFR Sport. “We are struggling to find the players we need.

“He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing.”

Wenger has his eye on Turkish international defender Omer Toprak according to the Daily Star preferring him over a move for Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer – who the Gunners have also been linked with.

Toprak is available for less than Mustafi and has years of Bundesliga and Champions League experience behind him.

Wenger did have Koscielny back yesterday for the Gunners clash against Premier League champions but is still without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel due to injuries.
