Calhanoglu: ‘Manchester United & Barcelona are huge clubs it would be hard to turn them down’

Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu starred in the 3-2 defeat against Roma in the Champions League yesterday but it was his post match comments that really caused a stir.

Calhanoglu has been closely linked with Barcelona and Manchester United over recent weeks with the Bild claiming that the Red Devils sent scouts to the last match between Roma and Bayer a fortnight ago.

The Turkish international was asked what he made of the Spanish and English giants reportedly interested in making a move for him after the game.

Calhanoglu was quoted by Lig Tv as saying: “Barcelona and Manchester United are huge clubs it would be different to turn them down but I have not said anything about any transfers or anything of the sort.”

The 21-year-old still has three-years left on his contract and Bayer CEO Michael Schade recently revealed that the club would only listen to offers of £28.9 million and above.

Calhanoglu has been involved in 12 goals in 16games in European competition according to Opta. The sports statistics website states that the Turkish International has scored six goals and provided six assists in his last 16 games in European football.

The Turkish international already has six goals and four assists to his name this season and has established a name for himself as a free-kick maestro. The Bayer playmaker already has 22 goals from direct-free kicks to his name.
