The scores were level 2-2 at full time and it took two goals in extra-time for Mersin to win the game.

“We played players who do not usually get a chance,” Çalımbay told Turkish-football.com reporters after the game.

“We are a newly promoted side and our main goal is to stay in the league not the cup so it is not really that big a concern for us.”

Mersin are currently 8th in the Süper Lig with 26 points from 19 games in all competitions this season.

The Mediterranean based side have performed above pre-season expectations this season but have only won one of their last eight Süper Lig games.

Mersin travel to the Black Sea on the weekend to take on Rizespor.

Başakşehir, Mersin and Balıkesirspor were all promoted at the start of the season. Başakşehir are currently in 5th place however, Balıkesirspor are rock bottom at the foot of the table.
