Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Brendan Rodgers for getting the best out of summer signing Emre Can.

Can joined the Reds as a central midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen but Rodgers has played the 21-year-old as a defender in his back-three for much of the season.

“Credit to the manager, he changed it and came up with the system and the players within the system are playing really well,” Carragher told the official Liverpool website.

Carragher underlined that Can has excelled in the back-three but that his position could change next season.

“At the start of next season things may have changed – the formation may have changed, there may have been players coming and going and the manager may have to look at that,”

“He just looks so suited to this back-three formation.”

Can took Carragher’s vacant number 23 jersey when he joined the club in honour of the former Liverpool star defender.

The 21-year-old has started the Reds last 11 games in defence.

Can has one goal and one assist in 30 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
