Diego Simeone has signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid that will keep him at the La Liga champions until 2020.

The 44-year-old coach has won the La Liga, Europa League, European Super Cup, Spanish Cup since taking over the Rojiblancos in 2011.

The La Liga champions reached the final of the Champions League last season but eventually lost out to rivals Real Madrid who they will face again in the competition, this time in the quarter-finals.

“I am here because I’m convinced the club will continue to grow,” Simeone was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Atleti president Enrique Cerezo admitted that he was delighted with the deal and believes Simeone is the right man to represent and develop the team.

“Nobody embodies the values ​​of our club more so than Simeone,” Cerezo said.

Arda Turan became the first Turkish international to win the La Liga with Atleti last season and has established himself as a key member of Simeone’s side.

Turan will star in the Turkish national team Euro 2016 qualification group stage game against the Netherlands on march 28.
