Dortmund admits no contract talks with Liverpool target Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has admitted that they’re yet to open new contract talks with Ilkay Gundogan.

The 25-year-old’s – who signed an extension during the summer transfer window – contract expires in July 2017.

“Ilkay is one of our key players. We’ll talk with him in due time on the future, but we still have a little time,” Zorc told Bild (via Bola)

“If it was up to me, I would always insist only on long-term contracts. But then, Ilkay Gündogan would possibly for years no longer play here.”

The midfield playmaker has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the appointment of Jugen Klopp.

Gündoğan has hinted at a move to Liverpool during a recent interview with the German tabloid newspaper Bild. “They have a good team, a great coach,” Gündoğan stated.

The Germany international worked under and won the Bundesliga with Klopp while the Red’s manager was at Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants sit in second place in the league with 38 points in 16 games. Gündoğan has provided five assists and scored two goals in 26 appearances for Dortmund this season.
