Dortmund CEO Michael Zorc in constant contact with Man Utd target Ilkay Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Michael Zorc has stated that he is in constant communication with Ilkay Gündoğan.

The deep-lying playmaker who has 12 months left on his contract with the Bundesliga side could be about to extend his contract.

“I am always in touch with Ilkay and his family,” Zorc was quoted as saying by Goal.

“I can only say that they have always behaved very well toward Dortmund.”

According to T-Online, Gündoğan’s agent Ilhan Gündoğan – also his uncle – stated that remaining at the Bundesliga club “is clearly an option again.”

The news comes days after Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said that there was a chance the Germany international would extend his contract with the club.

“Maybe there is still a chance that he has a rethink,” Dortmund’s general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke told WAZ.

Gündoğan has been closely linked with United, Barcelona and German giants Bayern Munich over the summer transfer window but the 24-year-old midfielder still has a year remaining on his contract with Dortmund.

The 24-year-old midfielder wrapped up the season with five assists and three goals in 33 appearances in all competitions. The Dortmund star also played a staring role in Germany’s 7-0 victory over Gibraltar last week.
