Dutch star will not join Stoke City one year after leaving Man Utd – source

Fenerbahce have rejected a loan bid from Stoke City for Robin van Persie after a meeting with the players agent.

A source close to the player told Turkish-football.com that the Potters were close to loaning Van Persie however, after a meeting between the agent and Fenerbahce an agreement was reached for the Dutch star to stay at the club.

Van Persie still has another two-years remaining on his contract and Fenerbahce will play Champions League football this season.

The 32-year-old is expected to start for the Yellow Canaries against Monaco in the 3rd qualifying round next week.

Had Van Persie joined Stoke he would have returned to the Premier League just a season after leaving Manchester United.

The experienced striker won the league title with United during his three-seasons at the Red Devils.

Van Persie provided three assists and found the back of the net 22 times in 48 appearances in all competitions for the Istanbul giants last season.
