Fenerbahçe have released a statement on their official website confirming that midfielder Emre Belözoğlu suffered a muscle tear in his leg in the Turkish Cup game against Altınordu.

The statement read: “Emre Belözoğlu suffered a muscle tear in his right thigh during the Altınordu-Fenerbahçe game.”

The length of his injury is unknown however, Belözoğlu is expected to miss the Süper Lig game against Kasımpaşa on the weekend.

The Yellow Canaries beat Altınordu 2-1 away to move into first place in the Turkish Cup Group E.

Belözoğlu has scored 26 times and provided 22 assists in 186 appearances for Fenerbahçe since joining from Newcastle United in 2008.

The Turkish international has won six Süper Lig titles, the UEFA Cup and two UEFA Super Cups.

Fenerbahçe are currently first in the Süper Lig on 36 points but rivals Beşiktaş and Galatasaray are close behind on 35 points.

The Yellow Canaries have the worst away record among the top 5 teams in the Süper Lig. Fenerbahçe have only secured 11 points on their travels this season.
