The Denmark U21 star Pierre Højbjerg has said that people should stop comparing Emre Can to the former Chelsea player Michael Ballack or Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
“He has his own style, you cannot compare him with Ballack or Gerrard.” Højbjerg told Uefa.com.
Højbjerg went on to praise his former Bayern Munich B teammate’s playing style.
“His physique and his passing game are extraordinary, he also reads the game very well.”
Can has made an impressive start to the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with a goal and an assist in his first two games. The former Leverkusen player has been playing in his preferred midfield role and has licence to roam forward into attacking positions.
The 21-year-old scored Germany’s equalising goal in their opening game against Serbia U21 and provided the assist for Kevin Kolland during Germany U21’s 3-0 victory over Denmark.
Germany U21 take on Czech Republic U21 in their final group game and know a draw will be enough to carry them though to the next round.
