Liverpool midfielder come defender Emre Can was left out of the Germany U21 side in their 2-2 draw against Italy U21.

Germany came from behind twice draw against Italy in the international friendly.

Can was included in the match day squad but did not start or make an appearance.

The 21-year-old has been played as a defender for much of the season despite joining the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen as a midfielder.

Liverpool have only lost one Premier League game in which Can has started in defence this season.

German U21 international of Turkish origin Yunus Malli did start but was brought off in the second half.
