Emre Can: ‘Liverpool’s main aim is to win the Europa League’

The Europa League may not be as prestigious as the Champions League but you can only win what you compete in and for Emre Can it would make a fitting end to the season.

The trophy is the only cup on offer and Can believes Liverpool should be taking the competition very seriously.

Can told Sport1: “We still have nine games in the Premier League, we want to win as many points as possible and win the Europa League as we have already come so far.”

The 22-year-old is however, under no illusions regarding how tough winning the Europa League could prove to be this season.

“Clearly, it will not be easy, but we want the to win,” he added.

Liverpool would have to find a way past Borussia Dortmund first who they take on in the quarter-final stage.

The first-leg will be played in Germany and Can will be expected to start. The Germany international of Turkish origin will be familiar with quite a few Dortmund players and head coach Jurgen Klopp knows the team inside out considering he managed them before joining Liverpool.

The last time Liverpool won the tournament was back in 2001 when it was called the UEFA league.
