Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praised Emre Can’s performance in the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea and believes he will get better with more experience.

“He’s a big, strong boy who is just coming back to fitness really,” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com.

“He did very well, showing good power and energy in the game.

“He can shoot from distance and got a good goal. He’s a young player that is developing very well and I’m sure over the next couple of years he’ll prove to be a very good player.

“He’s still a very young player at 20 years of age. So games like the one in the week [against Real Madrid] and this [against Chelsea]will be good for his experience.”

Can was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI against Chelsea and he repaid his managers faith with a goal on nine minutes.

Can moved to Liverpool on a £9.75m deal from Bayer Leverkusen this summer but missed much of the early part of the season with injury.
