Emre Can set to start in Liverpool midfield as Henderson faces late fitness test

Emre Can looks likely to start in Liverpool’s midfield following an injury to the club captain Jordan Henderson.

Henderson will face a late fitness test however, the Red’s captain remain cautious on his chances of being included in the starting line-up.

I have done something with my heel so every time I sort of plant my foot, whether I’m running or walking, I can feel it,” Henderson told the Liverpool Echo.

“It has settled down over the last few days but I don’t know what it will be like in terms of Monday.

“If I do play what is the risk and how long could I be out potentially if I do something in the game? That is the problem. There are many factors that the manager and the medical team need to decide.”

Emre Can has been tipped by club legend Mark Lawrenson to play in midfield if Henderson is ruled out.

The Germany u21 international has yet to start for the Reds this season but has came off the bench in both Premier League games this season.

Can joined Liverpool as a central midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen last summer but has spent most of his time at the Premier League giants as a defender.

The former Bayern Munich man played in Brendan Rodgers back-three last season and as a right-back. Liverpool take on Arsenal next at the Emirates stadium tonight at 20:00.
